Unlikely Northeast Ohio Site Gets State Grant for Hazardous Waste and Spill Cleanup

The president of HZW Environmental Consultants in Mentor, Matt Knecht, enjoys golfing at the Brandywine Golf Course in his free time, however his knowledge and curiosity lead him to the discovery of contaminants.

The site contains hazardous mercury from chemicals historically used to maintain golf greens, as well as asbestos in an old clubhouse. The contamination poses a risk of spreading into nearby waterways, including the Cuyahoga River, making remediation necessary before the land can be safely reused.

The state of Ohio has awarded grants to go towards hazardous waste and spill cleanup of the course and surrounding areas. Knecht and the HZW team are happy to be part of the remediation efforts.
