Environmental Compliance

HzW's Environmental Compliance Services Group provides services to the municipal, commercial, and industrial sectors in such areas as Hazardous Waste Management, Underground Storage Tank Management, Facilities Audits and Environmental Compliance Assistance. In all of these areas, HzW strives to assist our clients in maintaining or enhancing environmental compliance, while remaining sensitive to the production and financial needs of the facility.

The Clean Air Act and the related air permitting rules have become one of the most complex regulations for industry. How air permitting applies to each site is site specific, never "one size fits all". HzW has diverse and extensive experience in assisting companies in quantifying their air emissions and obtaining permits that allow for maximum operational flexibility with minimum record keeping burden. Further, HzW then assists the facility in establishing a recordkeeping and reporting routine that ensures continuous compliance.

Our Hazardous Waste Management services include interpretation and assistance in implementing complicated state and federal regulations governing the use, storage, treatment, and disposal of hazardous waste regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). These regulations now apply to thousands of facilities across the United States, from the local dry cleaner to Fortune 500 companies. Moreover, USEPA and Ohio EPA are continually updating and revising relevant waste management rules, such as used oil handling and storage rules, universal waste rules and the RCRA Closure Guidance Document. HzW's professional staff includes engineers, Certified Hazardous Materials Managers, Industrial Hygienists, and Safety Professionals to assist industries in sifting through the numerous regulations which may apply to their facility.

Numerous industries are also subject to annual reporting under Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) such as the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Report and the State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) Reports (SARA 311/312). SARA requires facilities that use hazardous materials to submit forms that identify how these materials area used, stored or released to the environment. HzW has helped many facilities determine whether their facility is required to submit these reports. HzW will also complete and submit the necessary forms, leaving you more time to manage your business.

When uncertain of the compliance status of their operations, many companies have turned to HzW for an environmental facility audit to determine and document where they stand with respect to each of the many complex environmental regulations that exist today. As part of a facility audit, HzW's team of professionals familiarizes itself with every facet of a company's processes and related waste streams in order to evaluate which environmental regulations are applicable. HzW will then recommend environmental compliance enhancement measures. Our experience in performing facility audits ranges from plastic molding companies to motor manufacturing facilities to manufacturers of fiberglass parts to chemical manufacturing. HzW tailors a program to meet an industry's specific needs. In a continuation of this relationship, HzW can also provide our compliance enhancement services on the basis of a monthly retainer agreement.

HzW can also assist companies in sorting through other regulatory requirements such as Industrial Stormwater rules, Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures (SPCC) and the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
